[PHOTO] REAL, OPTICAL ILLUSIONS OR MANIPULATION

1. WHICH WAY I AM LOOKING?
What you see? A man watching you or a side pose confusing image

2. THE SURREAL WORLD OF PHILIPPE RAMETTE
It may look like a photomontage, but in reality it isn’t. These are real images envisioned and portrayed by French artist Philippe Ramette, and photographed by his collaborator Marc Domage. To find out how the illusion was created, view video and more images here

6. NEGATIVE EFFECT
Try this, stare at the colored dots on this girl’s nose for 30 seconds, then quickly look at a white wall or ceiling (or anything pure white) and start blinking rapidly...

7. DROSTE EFFECTS

The Droste effect is a Dutch term for a specific type of recursive picture. An image exhibiting the Droste effect depicts a smaller version of the image within itself in a recursive manner. In theory, the picture in picture effect continues deeper into the picture ad infinitum, but it really only goes as far as the image resolution will allow while still being visible, but it still has the feeling of being never ending. The effect is named after the image on the tins and boxes of Droste cocoa powder, one of the main Dutch brands, which displayed a nurse carrying a serving tray with a cup of hot chocolate and a box with the same image. (Source Wikipedia )

You’ll find over 50 stunning examples of the Droste effect here or search in flickr. How to create one, you may find here.

8. ZERO GRAVITY ILLUSION

This is not photo manipulation. Johan Lorbeer is the German artist who created this magical performance. He became famous in the past few years because of his “Still-Life” Performances, which took place in the public area. In these performances he seems to unhinge the laws of gravity. For hours on time, he remains, as a living work of art, in physically impossible positions.

Elevated or reduced to the state of a sculpture, he interacts with the bewildered and irritated audience, often culminating in the wish to touch the artist in his superhuman, angelic appearance in order to participate in his abilities. (source Ungirly)

(Above) It looks like a normal photo with a guy sitting down reading a newspaper and two others walking on the sidewalk. If the image is rotated -90 degrees, you’ll see that it is an illusion

9.  JUST TILT THE CAMERA OR?
Did the photographer just tilt the camera to do this? What a awesome effect! What do you think?

10. OTHERS

The Hausmannian building on Georges V Avenue in Paris has been referred to as the ‘melting building.’ It’s actually a mural, and an optical illusion referred to as trompe l’oeil (trick the eye).

John Pugh is one of many ‘tricky’ artists and he primarily uses life-size murals to communicate with a larger audience. He says that it’s almost universal that people like to be visually tricked.
The photo of this melting building mural was taken in 2007.

This optical illusion carpet, spotted in a Paris video game store provides an illusion of vortex floor.

Some of you might already see this photos from Li Wei before. So here it is for those of you who wouldn’t know his works.

Background: His work melts performance art and photography. It creates sometimes the illusion of a dangerous reality. Li Wei claims that these images are not photoshopped and that he works with the help of props such as mirror, metal wires, scaffolding and acrobatics. More photos here.

If you have photos or link for interesting and great photos out there, please feel free to share here. Thanks
